Clink kayak

Spruce, copper rivets, polyester fabric

A kayak built using clinker construction. Kayaks are usually not built this way, perhaps for good reasons, I have actually not managed to find any other examples on the internet. The model is a Black Pearl, designed by Björn Thomasson Design, and is of the East Greenlandic type. The clinker style of boat building is over 1000 years old and goes back to the vikings. Perhaps this is what a kayak would have looked like if the vikings had stayed on Greenland and merged there way of building boats with the local traditions?

The hull is clinker-built, while the deck is made of fabric—much like a skin-on-frame kayak would traditionally have been built in Greenland. It is 5.4 meters long and the weight is around 16 kg.
